Privacy Policy

Venture ("we", "us") helps travellers plan trips, import bookings, split costs, store documents, and track itineraries. Venture is free to use and is funded by affiliate commissions, not by charging you for the app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. It is operated by Venture App (ABN: 70 409 957 253), 54 Landers Road, Lane Cove North NSW 2066, Australia, contactable at privacy@getventure.app.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you can raise any data protection matter with us directly at privacy@getventure.app.

1. Information we collect

• Account information, email address, password (stored hashed by our auth provider), and optional display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email) from that provider.
• Content you create, trips, itinerary items, bookings, expenses, checklists, logbook entries, and documents/photos you add to the Vault.
• Location, only when you tap "use my location" to tag an entry. We use your device's approximate location to look up a place name; we do not track you in the background.
• Camera & photo library, images you choose to attach to logbook or vault entries.
• Calendar, only to add itinerary items to your device calendar at your request.
• Booking documents, confirmation emails/PDFs you import are processed to extract trip details (see Subprocessors).
• Usage & diagnostics, product analytics events (e.g. trip created), crash reports, and session diagnostics, used to improve reliability and the product.
• Push tokens, a device token so we can send trip reminders and updates, if you allow notifications.
• Affiliate link activity, when you tap a partner link we record the tap and pass an attribution identifier (a "SubID") to the affiliate network so a resulting booking can be credited to Venture (see Affiliate links below).

Venture is free, so we do not take payment from you for the app and do not collect or store payment card details.

Sensitive information. If you store identity or travel documents (for example a passport, visa, or insurance certificate) in the Vault, you choose to provide them and we process them only to provide the Vault feature. Some of this may be sensitive or special-category information; please do not upload documents you do not want stored.

2. How we use your information

• To provide and operate the app's features and sync your data across devices.
• To process booking imports and surface relevant trip information (maps, weather, advisories).
• To send transactional messages and, if enabled, push notifications.
• To diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, and improve the product.
• To measure affiliate referrals so partners can credit Venture for bookings.

Legal bases (where applicable, e.g. UK/EU GDPR): performance of our contract with you, your consent (location, camera, notifications, analytics, marketing, each withdrawable as easily as it was given), and our legitimate interests in securing and improving the service.

Automated processing. We use AI (Google Gemini) to extract trip details from booking documents you import, and we rank partner suggestions automatically. We do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you by solely automated means.

3. Subprocessors & third parties

We share data only with service providers that help us run Venture:

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use a payment processor for the app, because Venture is free.

4. Affiliate links

Venture is funded by affiliate commissions. Some links to activities, accommodation, and travel services are affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you, and this never changes what we recommend or the price you pay. When you tap a partner link, we pass an attribution identifier (a "SubID") to the affiliate network so a resulting booking can be credited to Venture; the network and merchant then handle your booking under their own privacy policies. Affiliate networks and partners we work with include Partnerize and CJ (Commission Junction), and merchants such as GetYourGuide, Expedia, and World Nomads.

5. Cookies & analytics

On this website and our web app we use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, product analytics (PostHog), and session diagnostics (LogRocket). Analytics cookies are not set until you accept them; on your first visit we ask for your choice and you can change it at any time via Manage cookie preferences. The mobile app uses equivalent on-device storage and SDKs rather than browser cookies. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser, but some features may not work without them.

6. Data retention

We keep your account, trip, and Vault data while your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us), we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days. Some categories are kept on different schedules: encrypted backups roll off within [confirm: ~35] days; product analytics and crash diagnostics are retained only as long as needed for those purposes [confirm retention period], in pseudonymised or aggregated form; and we keep limited records longer where we must for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons.

7. Your rights

• Access, correct, or export your data.
• Delete your account and associated data in-app (Settings → Delete Account) or by email.
• Withdraw consent for optional permissions (location, camera, notifications, analytics) at any time in your device settings.
• Depending on your region (e.g. EEA/UK, California, Australia), additional rights may apply; contact us to exercise them.
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Australia the OAIC (oaic.gov.au), in the EEA your local data protection authority, and in the UK the ICO (ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access is restricted by row-level security and authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of breaches where required by law.

9. Children

Venture is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. International transfers

We are based in Australia and most of our providers are in the United States, so your data is transferred internationally. For transfers from the EEA and UK we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum), together with additional safeguards where needed. Contact us for more detail or a copy of the relevant safeguards.
